Shaping the policy discussions that matter

In 2025, the EU navigated a challenging economic and geopolitical environment, with competitiveness, regulatory simplification and growing global trade tensions at the heart of the policy agenda. Throughout each new challenge, AmCham EU ensured the perspectives of American companies invested in Europe remained part of these critical discussions.

By engaging with policymakers and collaborating with members, AmCham EU advanced practical recommendations to support a more competitive, innovative and resilient European economy. At a critical moment for the transatlantic relationship, this work also reinforced the value of continued EU-US collaboration. This report highlights the key moments, priorities and impact of our work in 2025.

Engaging at the highest levels

Amidst trade tensions and global uncertainty, senior business leaders from AmCham EU’s Executive Council engaged with Presidents António Costa, Roberta Metsola and Ursula von der Leyen of the European Council, Parliament and Commission. These exchanges reinforced the role of American companies invested in Europe as constructive partners in strengthening competitiveness, supporting open trade and advancing regulatory coherence across the Single Market.

Transatlantic 2025: in review

Our Transatlantic Conference returned in March under the theme Taking the transatlantic pulse: a new trade, tech and green agenda, focusing on how the EU and US can advance cooperation on competitiveness, economic security and innovation in a changing geopolitical environment. In his keynote remarks, Adam Szłapka, Polish Minister of EU Affairs, highlighted the linked nature of security and competitiveness and emphasised that simplifying regulations within the Single Market is essential to fostering business growth and attracting investment, leading to enhanced security and resilience within the EU.

Continuing the discussions at the Transatlantic Dinner

Taking place the same evening as the conference, our Transatlantic Dinner brought together MEPs Bernd Lange (S&D, DE), Virginius Sinkevicius (Greens/EFA, LT), Marie-Pierre Vedrenne (RE, FR) and Zeljana Zovko (EPP, HR), who discussed challenges facing the transatlantic relationship such as geopolitical tensions, competitiveness and security, reaffirming the necessity of continued cooperation.

Connecting with the AmChams in Europe

In parallel to the conference, AmCham EU hosted the Brussels Briefing, bringing together European AmChams for interactive workshops, networking and discussions on transatlantic leadership shifts and policy priorities. The programme covered the EU’s legislative outlook, transatlantic competitiveness and digital and sustainability policy, with participants exchanging views on how to strengthen transatlantic ties and support business growth.

Insights driving impact

Providing timely analysis and practical recommendations across key policy areas, our publications support evidence-based policymaking and informed engagement with EU institutions. They reflect the breadth of our advocacy work and our commitment to strengthening the transatlantic economy.

As headlines blare that Europe and the US are drifting apart, commercial ties between the two sides – the deepest and broadest between any two regions in history – are accelerating. In a new study, authors Daniel Hamilton, Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute of Johns Hopkins University’s Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies, and Joseph Quinlan, Senior Fellow at the Transatlantic Leadership Network, value the transatlantic economy at a new estimated high of $9.5 (€8.7) trillion in 2024, up from $8.7 (€8) trillion the previous year. This figure comprises an estimated record $2 (€1.8) trillion in goods and services trade between Europe and the United States and $7.5 (€6.9) trillion in combined affiliate sales.

Gala 2025: a celebration of partnership and shared ambition

Our annual Gala continued to be a highlight for the year, bringing together over 300 guests and featuring a keynote address from Roberta Metsola, President, European Parliament on the future of Europe and the strength of the transatlantic relationship. The programme also included a performance by Nikola Meeuwsen, First Prize, Queen Elisabeth Competition 2025, adding a cultural highlight to the evening.

Recognising young innovators

The AmCham EU Youth Entrepreneurship Award was presented by Julie Teigland, Global Vice-Chair, Alliances and Ecosystems and EMEIA Area Managing Partner, EY, to Sophia Nikolova of BioBliss, the 2025 award winner selected in partnership with Junior Achievement Europe (JA Europe). Continuing the focus on women entrepreneurs, BioBliss was recognised for developing a renewable alternative to lithium- and cobalt-based batteries.

Membership reaches new levels

AmCham EU welcomed 14 new members in 2025, closing the year with a record-high 169 member companies. This milestone reflects the strong and continued commitment of US businesses operating in Europe and reinforces the importance of a robust transatlantic economic partnership.
