Fostering innovation through collaborative partnerships

Despite only having 10,000 inhabitants, Figeac in south-west France is home to a whole ecosystem of aerospace companies and suppliers. Collins Aerospace, a Raytheon Technologies company, is one of them. Its Ratier-Figeac unit is an internationally renowned centre of excellence for propellers. Collins Aerospace RatierFigeac employs 1,200 people in four key business segments. Its main undertaking is propellers, which account for about 60% of the Ratier-Figeac unit’s activities. 60% of its total global expenditure on local suppliers is in France. The Van Berkel Group is located in Veghel, a town in the North Brabant region of the Netherlands. The company, founded in 1955 as a family company in agriculture, has expanded and diversified into many new sectors. In 2003, Van Berkel Logistics was established, with shipping services starting up in 2005, in the form of container transportation by barge from Veghel to Rotterdam and Antwerp. Tax: implementing global rules

Last year, over 130 countries reached an agreement to reform the global corporate tax framework. Attention now shifts to implementation as a global level playing field will be critical for the success of the project. The American Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (AmCham EU) shares the EU’s ambition to increase access to and further re-use of data. The International Day of Women and Girls in Science highlights the need to reflect on the persisting gender gap in scientific disciplines. Organised by the EPP Group on Instagram Live, Veronika Bendere, Chair, Diversity and Inclusion Task Force, AmCham EU, joined the Early gender stereotypes: the challenges for business alongside Angelika Niebler, MEP (EPP, DE) and young researchers Cormac Harris and Alan O’Sullivan to discuss the main stereotypes affecting girls in science and the reason why girls often take different career paths than their male counterparts. 

Foreign Subsidies Regulation: views from key EU trade and investment partners

Together with organisations representing key EU trade and investment partners, AmCham EU released a joint statement sharing our views on the proposed Regulation on Foreign Subsidies. We support the European Commission’s objective to combat distortions of competition in the EU caused by foreign subsidies. However, our organisations identify risks with the current proposal around legal uncertainty, burdensome compliance due to overbroad definitions and delays. A balanced, proportionate and multilateral approach will be critical. The statement points to six main areas for refinement. Read the full statement here.

We wish successful terms to Carsten Dannöhl (Caterpillar); Nicola del Valle de Sousa Gavaia (McDonald’s); Alexander Majer (First Solar); Simona Popa (InterDigital); Sofia Trenor (Amazon); and Felix Uedelhoven (GE). 

The Secretariat would also like to thank those who are stepping down for the extraordinary work they completed during their terms: Kate Ballentyne (former Chevron); Veronika Bendere (MSD), who remains as Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Task Force; Luca Bellomo (MSD); Taggart Davis (JP Morgan Chase Co); Walter Van der Meiren (UPS), who remains as Chair of the Customs and Trade Facilitation Committee; and Benjamin Neyt (LVMH).
