Joint AmCham EU delegation highlights key Brexit and Trade priorities to MEPs in Strasbourg

A joint delegation of AmCham EU members and staff last week visited the European Parliament in Strasbourg to highlight key business priorities in the Brexit talks and in Europe’s trading relations with the US and the rest of the world.

Highlights for the Brexit stream included meetings with Parliament Brexit Steering Group members Elmar Brok (EPP, DE) and Danuta Hübner (EPP, PL), key policy-makers such as Dianne Dodds (IND, UK),  Paolo De Castro (S&D, IT) and Kay Swinburne (ECR, UK), and notable officials including Markus Winkler, Vice-Secretary-General of the European Parliament and Mercedes Alvargonzalez, Head of Cabinet for Manfred Weber (EPP, DE). Highlights for the trade stream included meetings with Chair of the Parliament’s EU-US delegation Christian Ehler (EPP, DE) and Vice-Chair Jeppe Kofod (S&D, DK), plus leading MEPs in the International Trade (INTA) Committee including Daniel Caspary (EPP, DE), Santiago Fisas Ayxelà (EPP, ES) and David Martin (S&D,UK).

The delegation also hosted a seated dinner with MEPs Hans van Baalen (ALDE, NL), Richard Corbett (S&D, UK), Hans-Olaf Henkel (ECR, DE), Danuta Hübner (EPP, PL) and Godelieve-Quisthoudt-Rowohl (EPP, DE). In total, the group met with over 30 MEPs and officials over two days.

In addition, the group attended a reception hosted by Honda and Claire Moody (S&D, UK) focusing on the importance of delivering an ambitious new EU-UK relationship that works for businesses and citizens on both sides of the Channel. The reception featured remarks from Mark Lloyd-Davies of Johnson & Johnson.
