EU and UK must work together to ensure robust future trade relationship

AmCham EU has set out its position on the future trading relations between the EU and the UK, ahead of the upcoming Brexit negotiations. The two parties must work together to deliver a balanced agreement and a robust future EU-UK trade and investment relationship, ensuring the continued prosperity of both parties while limiting uncertainty and disruption in the interim.

AmCham EU’s Trade & External Affairs committee hosted a plenary session on Tuesday, 18 October 2016 on the subject of “The EU’s ‘Trade for All’ Strategy – One Year On.” The keynote address was delivered over lunch by Christian Burgsmüller, Member, Cabinet of Commissioner Cecilia Malmström, European Commission. The lunch also featured an intervention from Dita Charanzová MEP (ALDE, CZ). 

AmCham EU team completes Brussels Ekiden relay marathon, raises over €2700

Susan Danger attends ACE Best Practices conference in Slovenia

Susan Danger, CEO of AmCham EU, attended the AmChams in Europe (ACE) Best Practices Conference in Slovenia. The three day programme featured a number of sessions covering a wide range of topics, including Membership and Management, Advocacy and Impact and Communications and Marketing. 

From Slovenia Ms. Danger travelled to Croatia to discuss TTIP at the AmCham Croatia Economic Forum.

 

AmCham EU Youth Entrepreneurship Award 2016 jury deliberation takes place

The 4th Annual Youth Entrepreneurship Award, in collaboration with JA Europe, jury deliberation took place on Tuesday, 11 October 2016 at the AmCham EU offices.

Finalists were judged on thier levels of innovation, sustainability and commercial potential by the six members of the jury: Alex Barker, Brussels Bureau Chief, Financial Times; Susan Danger, CEO, AmCham EU; Anthony L. Gardner, US Ambassador to the EU; Stefaan Hermans, Head of Cabinet to Commissioner Thyssen; Eva Paunova MEP (EPP, BG); and Patrick Xhonneux, Vice-President, EMEA, Marketing, SAS.

World Trade Institute publishes updated results for Malta in TTIP study

The World Trade Institute (WTI), authors of the study “TTIP and the EU Member States (2016),” has published updated country-specific results of the impact of an ambitious TTIP on the Maltese economy. Utilising the latest economic data for Malta from 2015, the new findings conclude that TTIP could lead to a marginal increase in GDP and investment in the country. 

Presidency Group travels to Malta to meet Government Ministers ahead of Council Presidency

A delegation from the AmCham EU Presidency Group travelled to Malta this week for a series of high-level meetings with Government Ministers.

Meetings took place with:

  • Prime Minister Hon. Joseph Muscat;
  • Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Louis Grech;
  • Parliamentary Secretary for EU funds and 2017 Presidency Hon. Ian Borg;
  • Minister for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change Hon. Jose Herrera;
  • Minister for Finance Hon. Edward Scicluna;
  • Minister for the Economy, Investment and Small Business Hon. Chris Cardona;
  • Minister for Competitiveness and Digital, Maritime and Services Economy Hon. Emmanuel Mallia;
  • Minister for Health Hon. Chris Fearne; and
  • Minister for Social Dialogue, Consumer Affairs and Civil Liberties Hon. Helena Dalli.

 

AmCham EU CEO and senior members recognised as ‘women who shape Brussels’

The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) is delighted to announce that Susan Danger, CEO, has been recognised as one of the ‘women who shape Brussels’ by POLITICO Europe. Tim Adamson, Policy Adviser, attended a high-level conference on EU trade policy, EU Trade Agreements in Practice – Making Trade Work for You, held on 22 September 2016 in Bratislava, Slovakia. The conference highlight saw EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström and Canadian Minister for International Trade Chrystia Freeland discuss how to put progressive trade policy into practice.

AmCham EU meets US Commercial Service’s Regional Senior Commercial Officers

AmCham EU met with the US Commercial Service’s Regional Senior Commercial Officers (RSCOs) in Europe on Wednesday, 21 September. The meeting was an opportunity to brief the RSCOs on some of the top policy priorities such as TTIP, Brexit, Copyright etc. for the EU and to discuss closer cooperation on advocacy.
