June plenary on medical devices takes place

Plenary Meeting

The June plenary took place on Tuesday 16 June. The focus for the plenary was on Medical Devices with Tomasz Husak, Head of Cabinet to Elzbieta Bienkowska, Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs, European Commission, and Carsten Bermig, Member of Bienkowska's Cabinet, as keynote speakers. Mr Husak delivered an address on 'the new regulatory framework for medical devices: combining patients' safety and innovation'.

 

 

A panel discussion preceded the keynote and raised the following question: 'Medical devices and global trade: where does Europe stand?' The panellists were:

Jacques Pelkmans, Senior Research Fellow, Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS)

Ivone Kaizeler, Administrator, Unit for Tariff and Non-Tariff Negotiations, Rules of Origin, DG TRADE, European Commission 

Céline Bourguignon, Director, Worldwide Government Affairs & Policy, Johnson & Johnson 

Moderator: Andreas Galanakis, Policy Director, AmCham EU
