AmCham EU’s Trade & External Affairs committee hosted a plenary session on Tuesday, 18 October 2016 on the subject of “The EU’s ‘Trade for All’ Strategy – One Year On.” The keynote address was delivered over lunch by Christian Burgsmüller, Member, Cabinet of Commissioner Cecilia Malmström, European Commission. The lunch also featured an intervention from Dita Charanzová MEP (ALDE, CZ).

The panel discussion, moderated by Mark van der Horst, Director, EU Public Affairs, UPS Europe, and Chair, AmCham EU Trade and External Affairs Committee, AmCham EU, featured:

  • Ruta Zarnuskaite, Trade Strategy Unit, DG Trade, European Commission
  • Arnaldo Abruzzini, Secretary General, Eurochambres
  • Charles Faid, Director, EU Government Affairs, Pfizer

The engaging discussion focused on the European Commission’s ‘Trade for All’ strategy, published on year ago in October 2015, and its ability to assure an outward-looking and effective EU trade policy that delivers for businesses and citizens. Panelists reflected on the challenging environment for trade in Europe and globally, and considered ways to enhance the engagement between business, government and civil society, as well as how to better promote the benefits of trade.
