The role of the transport sector in the EU’s decarbonisation agenda

AmCham EU’s monthly plenary meeting took place and focused on the role of the transport sector in the EU’s decarbonisation agenda. Peter Vis, Senior Adviser to the Director General, DG MOVE, delivered the keynote speech. 

 

The panel discussion, moderated by Jérôme Bandry, EU Government Affairs Director, Caterpillar, and Chair of the Transport, Energy & Climate Committee, AmCham EU, featured: 

Edoardo Turano, Policy Officer, Road Transport Unit, DG CLIMA, European Commission;

Jacob Teter, Transport Energy Analyst, International Energy Agency (IEA);

Khurram Gaba, Policy Planning Executive, ExxonMobil ;

Christian M. Haenen, Executive Government Affairs Aviation, General Electric. 

The engaging discussion focused on the European Commission’s Strategy for Low-Emission Mobility Communication, published in July 2016. The panelists also touched on proposals relating to the increased use of biofuels within the transport sector, as well as examining suitable methods to implement ICT technologies to facilitate the transition to low-emission mobility.  AmCham EU members highlighted, among others, the crucial role of infrastructure and the need for the EU to develop and technology-neutral policy.
