This World Intellectual Property (IP) Day 2023, we’re supporting women who are shaping a better world. That’s why on Wednesday, 26 April, we demonstrated how closing the IP gender gap benefits everyone in society. The event, hosted in collaboration with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), featured a fireside chat and panel discussion on how to make IP systems more equitable through a more inclusive approach to policy. Highlighting talented women from around the world sets an example and encourages more women to participate in IP.

The fireside chat featured a conversation between Ana Urrecha Espluga, Technical Advisor, Legal Coordination and International Relations Department, Spanish Patent and Trademark Office and Rachel Bae, Intellectual Property Attaché, USPTO Brussels. During the panel we heard from Patrizia Carlevaro, Member of the Governance Board, Medicines Patent Pool; Magdalena Cymerys, Policy Officer, Directorate-General for Research and Innovation, European Commission; Carina Gommers, Partner, Wiggin LLP; Bernice Pan, Founder and Chief Creative Officer, DEPLOY London and Louise Petrelius, Senior Advisor, Division for Intellectual Property Law and Transport Law, Swedish Ministry of Justice. The discussion was moderated by Rachel Bae, Intellectual Property Attaché, USPTO Brussels.
