On Thursday, 28 May, for its American Hour series, AmCham EU had the pleasure of welcoming Michael Lally, Minister Counselor for Commercial Affairs; Erland Herfindahl, Senior US Trade Representative and Michael Sullivan, Counselor for Economic Affairs. The conversation was moderated by Susan Danger, CEO, AmCham EU.

The key takeaways from the meeting include:
  • The Hon. Ronald Gidwitz, acting United States Ambassador to the European Union will focus on the pandemic response and the economic recovery to the COVID-19 crisis.
  • The US Mission discussed the ongoing EU/UK and US/UK negotiations. The US negotiating objectives for the US-UK FTA are published on the United States Trade Representative (USTR) website.
  • The US is engaging with the EU on how to counter China’s non-market economy behaviour.
  • The US Mission is looking very closely at the Commission’s economic recovery proposal and in particular the own-resources debate.
  • The US Mission is also paying close attention to the European Court of Justice (ECJ) decision, expected to be released on 16 July, on the issue of privacy shield.
