Profile

The Digital Economy Committee looks at the benefits of the new economy in the form of competitiveness, growth, creation of jobs and modern democracy. The information society is a central factor influencing modern development; a major employer in the EU giving Europe significant social, cultural and economic opportunities. The committee monitors a variety of industry sectors, not just telecom network operators, internet service providers, manufacturers and content providers.

  • RFID (Radio Frequency Identification Technology) and IoT (Internet of Things) and
    'Internet of the Future'

  • Telecoms review

  • Data protection (including International Transfer of Personal Data and Data Privacy)

  • ICT and green technologies

  • Cloud computing
