Welcome to the new European Parliament!

From Thursday, 6 June to Sunday, 9 June, European citizens exercised their right to vote, electing their representatives in the European Parliament for the next five years. The American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU) congratulates newly elected and re-elected Members of the European Parliament (MEPs).

As representatives of the American business community in Europe, AmCham EU looks forward to partnering with the European Parliament. MEPs play a crucial role in advancing EU decision-making and connecting with citizens across the continent.

Safeguarding the attractiveness of Europe for investment is an urgent priority for this mandate. It will determine the EU’s ability to strengthen its economy, improve the wellbeing of citizens and tackle global challenges, such as climate change and security.

AmCham EU’s Agenda for Action outlines the three priority areas that should drive the European political agenda over the next five years:

  • A competitive, sustainable and digital Single Market;

  • A strong and resilient Europe on the international scene; and

  • An equitable and democratic Europe.

On Wednesday, 28 January, Thibaut L'Ortye, Senior Director of Public Affairs, represented AmCham EU at the launch of Hanover Communications’ Power Shift series. During the discussion, Mr L'Ortye highlighted how influence in EU policymaking has evolved over time, with shifts in tactics and approaches reflecting a changing political environment. He also addressed the interactions between the EU institutions, emphasising the importance of tailoring advocacy strategies to the specific roles and dynamics of each institution. Mr L'Ortye further noted how an increasingly complex geopolitical environment is shaping policy priorities and influencing the way businesses operate. The panel also included Brian Hayes, CEO, Banking and Payments Federation Ireland and Claire Boussagol, former Managing Director, Euractiv.
