On Tuesday, 16 October 2018, AmCham EU members convened for the monthly plenary meeting to explore the current opportunities and challenges for EU trade policy for the coming year and into the future.

The plenary kicked off with a panel discussion featuring Luca De Carli, Acting Head of Unit, Trade Strategy, DG Trade, European Commission; Elvire Fabry, Senior Research Fellow, Institut Jacques Delors; and Kate Kalutkiewicz, Senior Trade Representative to the EU, Office of the USTR. Moderated by Karl Falkenberg, Senior Advisor, APCO Worldwide, the lively discussion focused in particular on the state of transatlantic trade, the future of the WTO and the opportunities for the EU in today’s complex trading environment.

Christofer Fjellner, MEP and Member of the European Parliament’s International Trade Committee delivered the keynote remarks during the seated lunch. Fjellner called on the EU to deepen its ambitious trade agenda and to take on a global role in the face of rising global protectionism.
