Sharing best practices in Lisbon

In late September, 55 representatives from 31 American Chambers of Commerce attended the AmChams in Europe (ACE) Best Practices Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. Susan Danger, CEO, AmCham EU and Roger Coelho, Senior Policy Director joined to exchange best practices and knowledge, as well as to discuss relevant and shared issues impacting AmChams and their members from across Europe and wider regions. 

During the week, Ms. Danger also spoke at AmCham Portugal’s Transatlantic Business Summit, where she touched on the resilience of the transatlantic relationship, the role of the private sector in Europe and more. AmCham Finland was presented with the Creative Network Award for their innovative Launchpad USA, which is a US market entry platform for Finnish companies. 

Thank you to AmCham Portugal for hosting this year’s conference and an additional thanks to AmCham Greece, who runs the Secretariat of the network, and the Executive Committee of AmChams in Europe for the superb organisation.

Connecting with APAs and group policy advisers

AmCham EU hosted its Spring reception with Accredited Parliamentary Assistants (APAs) and group policy advisers in Brussels on Thursday, 23 April. The event gave members the chance to meet with European Parliament staff and build stronger connections. APAs and group policy advisers play an important role in the EU policy process. The reception helped support open dialogue between the public and private sectors. Roberta Brumana, Outreach Director, AmCham EU, opened the evening by welcoming guests and highlighting the value of working together to support effective policymaking.

Bridging pay gaps through transparency

At the European Association Summit & Awards 2026, Maximiliano Santy, Senior Director of Operations, AmCham EU, spoke at a session organised by the European Society of Association Executives Finance & HR Community on salary transparency and the gender pay gap. Taking place on Thursday, 26 March, he outlined the implications of the EU Pay Transparency Directive for organisations and highlighted the importance of objective, transparent criteria in addressing pay disparities. He also emphasised the need to align compensation practices with legal requirements while supporting fairness, accountability and trust across the workplace. Natalie Bastiaens, Partner, Tax and Legal Services; Kathleen Bracke, Managing Associate, Social Legal, BDO and Martina Schusterova, Director, Energy Traders Europe also joined the panel.

On Thursday, 26 March, Kim Watts, Policy Director, AmCham EU joined a panel discussion on trade, e-commerce and supply chains in a fragmenting global economy. The discussion covered a wide range of issues, including the state of global trade, transatlantic relations and economic security. Speakers explored why open trade plays a critical role in Europe's competitiveness.
