The Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC)

The Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC)  was established by US President George Bush, EU Council President Angela Merkel, and EU Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso in 2007 to help integrate the economic relationships between the governments of the United States and the European Union.

The TEC met three times under the Bush administration. The most recent meeting of the TEC occurred in Washington, D.C. on October 26-27, 2009 for the first time under the Obama presidency. On the tails of one of the largest financial crisis is recent history, the Council called for renewed cooperation and integration of the two economies.

The TEC is also concerned with other innovation and technology issues including pharmaceuticals, cosmetics testing and auto safety, among others. Their latest progress report outlines the efforts they are undertaking to address these issues.
