US Trade Representative briefs AmCham EU on the High Level Working Group on Jobs and Growth
Date: 20 December 2011

On 14 December, AmCham EU welcomed Dan Mullaney, Assistant US Trade Representative to Europe & the Middle East to discuss the High Level Working Group on Jobs and Growth, co-lead by USTR and DG Trade, which was set up following the EU-US Summit and Transatlantic Economic Council (TEC) which took place in Washington D.C. on 28-29 November.

The working group was set-up partly as a result of a call from the business community for further transatlantic cooperation. The leaders are mandated to 'look at all options', with four main criteria to consider:

1.      Value (for jobs/growth/competitiveness);
2.      Feasibility;
3.      Consistency with international obligations; and
4.      Effect on multilateral trade dynamics

The working group is due to issue a report at the end of December 2012, with an interim report in June. In cooperation with other trade associations, AmCham EU intends to engage with the Working Group during 2012 to provide input and advocate for a high level of ambition.
