Management

Susan Danger

Managing Director  |  Fluent in English, German and French and conversant in Dutch and Spanish

Susan Danger is Managing Director of the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU which represents the views of European companies of American parentage to the EU institutions. It also hosts the secretariat of the AmCham EU Executive Council.

Ms Danger joined AmCham EU of the American Chamber of Commerce in Belgium in 1995 as Communications & Operations Manager. Based at the secretariat office in Brussels, she was responsible for enhancing the reputation and effectiveness of the organisation through internal and external communications activities which included promotion, publications, electronic and online communications and press activity. She was also responsible for professional development and major events. Since August 2002, she has been Managing Director and is now responsible for running AmCham EU office which itself ensures the smooth administration of all AmCham EU activities: public affairs, information services and operations. AmCham EU office provides administrative support, information and other advisory services to several hundred representatives of corporate member companies and law and consultancy firms.

A graduate of the University of Bath, UK, with a BA in European Studies/French/German, Ms Danger's career developed in London in marketing and communications within the tour operation industry, where prior to coming to Brussels she worked for Thomson Tour Operations. Previously she has worked in the UK, Germany, Austria and Spain and has travelled extensively throughout the world, including Australia and the Far East.

A UK citizen, Ms Danger lives in Brussels with her husband and three children.

Anna McNally

Communications Director  |  Fluent in English
Anna joined AmCham EU as Communications Director in February 2009.
Anna received a Masters Degree in Public Administration from George Washington University in Washington D.C. Anna worked in communications and public policy for King County and City of Seattle governments before relocating to Brussels. In Brussels, Anna managed communications at FedEx Express for Europe, Middle East, India and Africa region for six years before becoming the Advisor for Environment and Sustainability there.

Anna has both US and Irish citizenship.

Andreas Galanakis

Policy Director  |  Fluent in English and Greek, working knowledge of French
Andreas joined AmCham EU in April 2010 as Policy Director. Prior to joining AmCham EU, Andreas served as Head of the Economic Policy Unit at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the European Union, a post he held for five years. Andreas has also been an official at the World Bank, serving as Counselor for European Affairs at the Brussels office from 2000 to 2004 and as Operations Analyst in the office of the Country Director for Southern Africa. Andreas has also served as a research assistant at the Overseas Development Council in Washington DC.
 
Andreas holds a Masters of Arts in Economics and a Masters of Arts in Political Science both from The George Washington University. He received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Maryland, College Park.
 
Andreas is a Greek national.  

 

Mairead Audounet

Events and Public Relations Manager |  Fluent in English, and French, and conversant in German and  Dutch

Mairead joined AmCham EU in January 2009 as Events & PR Manager.

Mairead came to Brussels in 1999 and has acquired extensive project management experience in the European NGO healthcare and disability sectors over the years. She held the position of European Project Manager with the European Multiple Sclerosis Platform, Director of the European Union of the Deaf and Assistant General Secretary of the European Platform for Vocational Rehabilitation.

She holds a bachelor's degree in Commerce from University College Dublin, as well as a post-graduate diploma in social & vocational rehabilitation from the Michael Smurfit School of Business, University College Dublin..

She is also a longstanding supporter of youth theatre and since her arrival in Brussels, has been President of the not-for-profit theatre company, Orange Sanguine.

Mairead is of Irish nationality.

 

Conny Dekens

Office Manager  |  Fluent in English, Dutch, French, and German

Conny Dekens joined AmCham EU in September 1990.

She is the Office Manager at AmCham EU Secretariat. She graduated in Modern Languages/Secretarial Management from the Hogeschool HONIM in Brussels. Conny is of Belgian nationality, is married and has 1 son, Bjorn.

 

Gwijde Demedts

Financing and Human Resources Director  |  Fluent in English, Dutch, French, German and conversant in Spanish

Gwijde Demedts is HR and Finance Director of AmCham EU. He is a partner in D&WMS, a management services company set up in 1999, and works for AmCham EU on a part time basis since 2004. He specialises in finance and administration and in facility management and also works for other clients in the Brussels international scene.

Gwijde is a metallurgical engineer and holds a PhD in Engineering Sciences from the University of Ghent, and an MBA from the University of Antwerp. He started his career as Failure Analyst in a Belgian technical inspection company, currently known as Vinçotte and moved soon on to various management functions in that company. He was General Manager (in charge of the support functions) of De Bandt Vanhecke Lagae, a premier Belgian law firm, prior to setting up D&WMS.

Gwijde is a Belgian national.

Roger joined AmCham EU in April 2008 as Communications Officer and moved to the Policy Team in April 2010. He is responsible for the Digital Economy Committee and the Presidency Group.

Roger holds a BA Honours degree in European Studies and Political Science from Trinity College at the University of Toronto and a MA in European Political and Administrative Studies from the College of Europe in Bruges.

Prior to joining AmCham EU, he worked at the Information and Communication Unit in DG Enlargement at the European Commission, Houston Consulting Europe (now Kreab Gaven & Anderson) and at Pinnacle Public Relations in Brussels. Roger has lived and studied in Canada, France, Portugal and Belgium.

Roger is a dual Canadian-Portuguese national.

 

Emanuele Degortes

Policy Officer  |  Fluent in English and Italian, conversant in French
Emanuele joined AmCham EU in September 2011. He is responsible for the Agro-Food, Healthcare, Insititutional Affairs and Consumer Affairs committees.Previously he worked for the Brussels Delegation of Italian Confederation of Industry (Confindustria) where he followed dossiers that dealt with the internal market, consumer affairs, economic and financial affairs and the EU budget.

Before coming to Brussels, he had spent some time as a policy researcher in a British trade federation (the National Federation of Builders) where he helped draft a paper on how UK public procurement could be improved. During his Masters in European politics at the London School of Economics, he did a part time internship at the Confederation of British Industry within their Regulatory Affairs department focusing on the UK and EU better regulation agenda. 

 

Leah Charpentier

Senior Policy Officer  |  Fluent in English and French. Conversational German.
Leah joined AmCham EU in May 2010. She is responsible for the Environment and Transport and Energy Committees in addition to the Climate Change Task Force and the working groups on Waste and Chemicals.
 
Before joining AmCham EU, Leah worked in London for the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and for Business for New Europe. She also did an internship at the European Commission’s Secretariat General in Brussels.
 
She holds a Masters degree in EU studies from the 'Sciences Po' in Paris (Institut D'Etudes Sciences Politiques de Paris) and a BA in International Relations from the George Washington University.
 
Leah has both French and US nationalities.

 

Adriaan Scheiris

Policy Officer | Fluent in Dutch, English, French and learning Italian.
Adriaan joined AmCham EU in January 2012. He is responsible for the Customs & Trade Facilitation, Security & Defence, and Trade & External Relations Committees. Before joining AmCham EU, Adriaan worked for Toy Industries of Europe, the trade association for the European toy industry, and completed a traineeship at the Directorate General of Enterprise and Industry at the European Commission.
 
Adriaan holds a master degree Political Science in EU Studies from the University of Ghent and a master degree in EU economics from the Institut d’études européennes of the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB).
 
Adriaan is of Belgian nationality.
 

Aylin Lusi

Policy Officer  |  Fluent in English, French, Turkish, conversant in Spanish

Aylin joined AmCham EU in March 2011, and is responsible for the Financial Services & Company Law Committee, the EU Tax Task Force and the EU-US Task Force.

Aylin holds an MSc degree in European Political Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), and a BA degree in European Social and Political Studies from University College London (UCL). She also studied at Université Paris Sorbonne (Paris IV) for a year as part of an exchange programme.

Prior to joining AmCham EU, Aylin completed a traineeship at the European Commission, where she worked for the Bureau of European Policy Advisers (DG BEPA). She has also gained experience as a Parliamentary Intern in the House of Commons and at the Department for Transport in the UK.

She is responsible for the communication aspects numerous committees, including: Climate Change, Environment, Transport & Energy, Agro-Food, Intellectual Property, and Employment & Social Affairs. She is also responsible for several of AmCham EU’s publications, including the EU Information Handbook and AmCham EU Quarterly.

Rosie holds a BA in French and Politics from the University of Bath is of British nationality.

 

Edward Thomas

Senior Membership & Marketing Officer  |  Fluent in English and conversant in French
Edward joined AmCham EU in September 2006 as an Operations Intern responsible for helping to organise plenary meetings and other events as well as working on ECACC relations. In April 2007 he was promoted to the new post of Operations and Projects Officer. In September 2007 he was appointed to the post of Membership Officer. He is now responsible for all aspects of membership services including business development and retention as well as Associate membership.

Edward holds a bachelor's degree in International Politics and Military History from the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Prior to working at AmCham EU, he gained experience in the European Parliament with Jonathan Evans MEP. Edward is a Vice-Chairman of the Brussels Barbarians Rugby Football Club.

Edward is a British national.

Giovanni joined AmCham EU's Communication Team in October 2010. Prior to joining AmCham EU, Giovanni worked for the Centre for European Studies (the foundation of the European People's Party), Friends of Europe and the Canadian Western Trust Company.

Giovanni holds an MA in European Political and Administrative Studies from the College of Europe (Bruges, Belgium) and a BA in European Studies and History from the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada).

Giovanni is a citizen of Canada and Italy.

 

 

Carine Pauly

IT Coordinator  |  Fluent in English, Dutch, French, and German and basic Spanish

Carine Pauly joined AmCham EU in September 1999. She is responsible for database development, network administration, technical support, invoicing, and administrative support. She graduated in Modern Languages/Secretarial Management. She is currently doing a degree in computer science at the EHSAL.

Carine is a Belgian national.

Emily Barnes

Managing Directors' Intern

Emily joined AmCham EU as Managing Director’s Intern in September 2011. She is responsible for supporting the Managing Director in her day to day activities, providing research and assisting in the organisation of the monthly plenary meetings and other events, such as the annual Washington Doorknock. She is also responsible for assisting the Membership Officer in business development activities and assists the Communications Team with the production of publications and updating the website. In addition, she assists the Managing Director in her role as Vice-Chair of the European Council of American Chambers of Commerce (AmChams in Europe). 

Emily is currently studying for a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of Bath.  

Emily is of British nationality.

Jordan Morrissey

Policy Intern

Jordan joined AmCham EU in September 2011 as Policy Intern. He is responsible for supporting the AmCham EU horizontal and sectoral committees and providing assistance to the Policy Officers.  He coordinates and attends committee meetings and also assists the team in the organisation of larger events and monthly meetings. He also performs research to monitor issues of interest to AmCham EU members across a broad spectrum of European and Transatlantic policy areas.  In addition, Jordan is responsible for writing briefing notes on issues of interest to AmCham EU members and periodical articles for the AmCham EU Newsletter. 

Jordan is currently studying for a BSc in Politics with Economics at the University of Bath.

Emily Barnes

Managing Directors' Intern

Emily joined AmCham EU as Managing Director’s Intern in September 2011. She is responsible for supporting the Managing Director in her day to day activities, providing research and assisting in the organisation of the monthly plenary meetings and other events, such as the annual Washington Doorknock. She is also responsible for assisting the Membership Officer in business development activities and assists the Communications Team with the production of publications and updating the website. In addition, she assists the Managing Director in her role as Vice-Chair of the European Council of American Chambers of Commerce (AmChams in Europe). 

Emily is currently studying for a BSc in Politics and International Relations from the University of Bath.

Jordan Morrissey

Policy Intern

Jordan joined AmCham EU in September 2011 as Policy Intern. He is responsible for supporting the AmCham EU horizontal and sectoral committees and providing assistance to the Policy Officers.  He coordinates and attends committee meetings and also assists the team in the organisation of larger events and monthly meetings. He also performs research to monitor issues of interest to AmCham EU members across a broad spectrum of European and Transatlantic policy areas.  In addition, Jordan is responsible for writing briefing notes on issues of interest to AmCham EU members and periodical articles for the AmCham EU Newsletter. 

Jordan is currently studying for a BSc in Politics with Economics at the University of Bath.
